The season

"It will take something to catch Chelsea that look very, very hard, but it's a long season and it is not yet Christmas. The League will be decided in March or April.

"They begin to buy, day-by-day and week that van Gaal and his team wants to leave the players and his style of play."

"You can hear at the Press Conference that it is not totally happy, but they win games and against Stoke which was important because they were suspended at the end.
"They have two big games against Southampton and Liverpool and they simply have to take this match by match... a week."

Meulensteen was impressed by Marouane Fellaini, who scored the first game against Stoke with a large head, and the Dutchman feels that Belgian midfielder may prove to be a great influence in the rest of the season.

"You saw yesterday and it's Fellaini at its best, entering late in the case," he said. "It is a big powerful man. I do not think that Mark Hughes will be happy the defence in this case, but nothing away. The timing was good and the header was perfect.

"It's good for him because he had a very difficult last season and it reinforces his confidence, he plays in a better position than I think and it's OK."
