Steven Gerrard to stay at Liverpool for another year, says Phil Thompson
Former defender of Liverpool Phil Thompson said Captain Steven Gerrard is likely to sign another contract and it is well positioned to take on a position as coach at Anfield, when his game is complete.
Thompson told Sky Sports News HQ that goal by Gerrard in the 3-1 victory over Leicester City showed that he was still "pleased" at the club, and coaching opportunities would arise when the 34-year-old playing days were over.
"I think it is more than happy, I think that it will remain at Liverpool for at least 12 months, and I can well imagine that if he wants, he will remain at a very high level on the coaches," said Thompson.
"Even with the likes of Steven - it was long - ago if he has no right to be a Manager right away to Liverpool? It is difficult. It happened with Kenny Dalglish.

"I think that he would start working as a coach at a first level of the team. Team first coach I think would be ideal, or a Deputy Director. »

Thompson, who managed Liverpool for a temporary, said the role of Gerrard on the field had been "subject to discussion: good" and that he could not yet be 'this rampaging midfield player', but still advance it could provide the team "with the best of both worlds".
Thompson also weighed on goalkeeper Simon Mignolet from bad recent run form for Liverpool, especially the goal that he conceded on his back against Leicester.

"He replace? No, "Thompson said.

"Because I still believe that, at this time, Brad Jones is a good goalkeeper, but he is not as good as Simon Mignolet. But if the confidence of Mignolet is still down, they might have to look to take him out of the firing line... we may need a new goalkeeper in January. »

Another player of Liverpool sidelined, Adam Lallana, Thompson said that he could not understand why offensive midfielder was not a pillar of Liverpool from aside.

"He brings something to the party. It is always progressive with his death, it is still progressive with his movement and I think it should be included among the main starters every game. "
