Women's World Cup: FIFA dismisses discriminations claims over artificial turf
FIFA Secretary-General Jérôme Valcke said, it is "absurd" to suggest to play the feminine world on artificial turf then the summer Cup is an indication of discrimination.
Valcke, speaking on the eve of the draw of Canada 2015, defended the world governing the engagement of the body for the game of women after corresponds to a group of elite players women mounted a legal challenge to the decision to play on artificial land.
The complaint, filed under Human Rights Code of Ontario, came from players including American star before Abby Wambach and CITES discrimination between the sexes, with the argument, it must be a tournament played on grass, such as cutting of all men of the world has been.
Valcke said: "I am amazed by the size, or the scale of the discussion and where we are when it comes to artificial land."
"Why? Because we decided to FIFA - and this is part of our Constitution and bylaws - this artificial land can serve as natural grass to make sure that we can play football anywhere in the world. It is a principle.
"The principle that when you go into a country and the country is using artificial land, and the country asked FIFA for permission to use artificial land for a competition they have received the FIFA, the Executive Committee may take a decision to authorize the use of artificial land.
"I can tell you for 2019, when a decision will be taken next March for the women's World Cup next, we have two candidates - France and South Korea." Both will use natural grass and thats all, there's no discussion.
"If someone says that the use of the artificial lawn is a matter of discrimination, it is nonsense.
"It's crazy to say that." It has nothing to do with discrimination. »
Valcke added: "I want everyone to understand that we at FIFA are working every day to develop women's football around the world."
Valcke said as the goal line technology would be applied and tournament earnings would increase to £9. 6 m - an increase of 50 per cent of the 2011 tournament.
The pot of prizes for the 2014 men's World Cup was 370 million sterling pounds and anticipating a question expected on the gap that separates these figures, Valcke said: «this is not yet a question, I will answer because it is nonsense»
Asked why it was considered as such, Valcke said: "this is a difficult question, but I would say that the first answer is that we play for men 30 in 2014 World Cup, when we play the seventh women's World Cup, then things can grow step by step.
"We still have another 23 sections of the world before potentially women should receive the same amount as men." They waited until 2014 to receive so much money they receive.
"In addition, male World Cup pays for all. Men's World Cup pays for all the 20 world cups, we organise - 17 years, less than 20, men and women, Club World
Cup, futsal, beach soccer - everything is funded by cutting of the male world, which brings me directly 4.5 billion (dollars) to FIFA. "
